Record of Pension Papers Granted to Revolutionary War Soldiers Who Settled in Kentucky Counties:
ANDERSON COUNTY

 

S35174: ATKINS, Edward - Private, Virginia line born about 1756, S 35174;
     Enlisted about beginning of Revolution.  In 1818 he was living in Franklin County, Kentucky.  States 4th December 1820. " I have no family to contribute to my support."
     Pension began 9-7-1818; Certificate issued 7-15-1819.
S16330: BOSTON: REUBEN:
     Private, Virginia line, born in Orange County, Virginia, residided resided there during the war, moved to Kentucky 1792.
     Entered service 1779.
    Pension began 3-4-1831; Certificate issued 2-1-1833.

COWGILL or COGHILL: RALPH
     Private - Virginia - Continental line.  Entered service in Virginia.
     Served two years.
     Pension began 3-4-1831, Certificate issued 2-5-1833, died October, 1836.
  COWGILL: MARY
     Same as above.
     Widow of Ralph Cowgill (see above) Born 1798, Also known by name of Polly.  Maiden name Polly Poindexter.  Marriage license in Franklin County, Kentucky.  Ralph Cowgill and Polly Poindexter 30-Jan 1821.
     Richard Fountaine signed the bond.  Pension of Mary Cowgill, began 2-3-1853.
     Certificate issued 8-23-1853.
10262 CUMMINS: WILLIAM;
    
Private, Kentucky Dragoos, war of 1812.  Born 1787, Probably not accurate for later statements conflict.  Jacob Cummins and Isaac Cummins, brothers of William Cummins
give testimony.  On 24th of April 1871, James E. Cummins - relationship not stated - signs application for increase of William Cummin's pension.  In 1872, William Cummins mentions his wife, but not by name.
     Pension began 11-20-1832; Certificate issued 3-30-1833 (or 1853)
S15,432 FRANKLIN: STEPHEN
     Private, Va and North Carolina lines.  Born in Orange County, Virginia.  Does not recollect the eyar."  Entered service in Orange County, Va.  In 1833 refers to an aged wife.  Was living in Wilkes county North Carolina when he entered the North Carolina ervice.  The name of Beman or Baman Franklin occurs on the back of one of the papers constituting the pension record of STEPHEN FRANKLIN but there is nothing to explain who he was. 
     Pension began 3-4-1__1, Certificate issued 2-7-1874
W8886 HAWKINS: JAMES
     Captain Virginia Militia, enteredd service January, 1792, from Orange County, Virginia, where he resided.  Died Mar. 2nd 1819, never having applied for a pension.
  HAWKINS: JANE -
    
Widow of Captain JAMES HAWKINS (see above)
     Born 1763.  Maiden name not stated.  Married to James Hawkins April 12th 1781 - in Culpepper County, Virginia by Rev. Stephenson.  Jane Hawkins - states her eldest child was born Mar. 9, 1783.  The Bible with record of ages __ her children were lost in MOVING TO KENTUCKY IN 178_
     Pension of J___ HAWKINS
began _ = 4 - 18__, Certificate issued 7-1-1835?
- died September 24th 1842.  John J. McAfee, administrator of her estate
- states that her only surviving children were:
     JAMES HAWKINS; JANNE MACKLEY; ELIZABETH FOSTER; OHIO COL_MAN; SARAH BO_TON AND MARY JORDAN.
#W2939 HILL: WILLIAM
     Private, Virginia. Born 1743. Enlisted Staunton, Virginia. 
     Pension began 10-13-1818 - Certificate issued 3-14-1880
  HILL: ANNA
     widow of Will Hill (see above) Born 1764, maiden name ANNA ____ a. 5 ____ HILL: MARRIED 15th March 17_3, in ____tte ____, M_____ William Hill, age 37, gives t__ t__ ony ___ _ _________ a son of William and Anna Hill,.  Sarah Hill, age 36, gives testimony on ____ber 11th 1845. 
     Pension of Anna Hill began 3-4-18_6 - Certificate issued 6-13-1839.
S31176 MOWDAN: OR JORDAN: GEORGE:
     Private, Virginia line, born about 1756 enlisted 1776, in Culpepper County, Virginia, where he then lived
     - On June 14th 1894, Thomas R. Jordan of Tacoma Washington, writes to the War department to inquire about the military service of his grandfather George Jordan who enlisted from Culpepper county, Virginia and for 40 years prior to his death which occurred in 1842 - lived in Anderson, formerly Franklin County, Kentucky.
     Pension began 3-4-1831 - Certificate issued 4-12-18_3.
S13896 McGUIRE: JAMES,
      Private, Virginia line and Ind war. 6 years service.
     Enlisted 6th March 1776, in Botetourt county, Virginia.
     Came to Kentucky 1783, - served in Clark's campaign 1786.
     Pension began 2-2-1820, Certificate issued 6-5-1820.
